Robin Hood at Downton
Posted: 29th November 2023
A swashbuckling tale of derring-do and ridiculousness!
Can Robin and his barmy band of brigands save the poor people of the Forest from the scheming Sheriff? Can they thwart his greedy plans? Can they find a way to level up? And can Robin right the wrongs, with mischief and merriment, without getting into a terrible mess? Who will he meet in the woods? Come see for yourself!
With quirky storytelling, merriment and mischief, the Travelling Players present a stout-hearted tale of epic proportions. Expect a great deal of swashbuckling, a number of ridiculous fights and some improbable archery. With live music, puppets and far too many trees, this co-production with Bumblefly, Forest Forge and Mischievous Theatre will hit the target this festive season.

Downton Memorial Centre Fees
Posted: 26th March 2023
The Downton Memorial Centre, like all of us, is being affected by inflation and, in particular, the increase in utility prices.
Those of you who have been using the hall for many years will know that the general hire fees have not increased for at least 10 years. In that time the Consumer Prices Index has increased by approximately 30%. We set our current prices for the meeting rooms in the extension when they were opened in 2018; the CPI in that time has increased by 18%. Our gas and electricity costs for the hall and meetings rooms will be two and a half times higher from April this year, when our current 3 year contract ends.
Taking all this into account, the Trustees of the DMC have decided that we cannot continue with the current room hire fees. The Trustees wish to keep the price increase to a minimum as we understand the importance of the DMC to the community. We also wish to make the increase as simple as possible. We have decided to raise the two separate hourly rates of £10 and £15 by 10%; they will now be £11 and £16.50 respectively. This change will be effective for room hires from May 2023 onwards.
We have been putting this off for as long as possible, but now have no other option in order to meet our financial commitments. We trust that you understand.
